The Winter Night

On a cold winter night, laid a shivering deer with its antlers almost torn out of its head. Its presence made the snow have a shade of pink stain glittering next to the clean pile of snow. The creature was in pain, due to the gunshot sustained from a vicious ruthless hunter, who kills for scores and food. The wounded deer kept on whinnying until a little girl opened her back door to deliver the basket of hays to her father’s racing horses when she caught sight of the dying animal and gasped out loud. It was the most magnificent creature she’d ever came across with in her entire life. Looking back, she heard loud snores coming from her parents’ bedroom and raced towards the injured deer.

Patting the bloody head, she tore a couple of clothing from her dress and tenderly wrapped it around the bleeding antlers. Dusk was saying goodbye and dawn was drawing near. The little girl gathered all the strength she could find and assisted the deer to a sheltered stable. Quietly opening the old creaking doors, a brown horse neighed, frightening the poor deer. After a couple of neighs, the smart girl removed an apple plus four cube of sugar out of her pocket and offered it to the noisy horse. This was somewhat a way to distract whatever plans the horse had in mind.

After a lot of search, she found an empty space and laid the deer on the soft warm grass.

Stroking up the fire to the smouldering stage, she placed a bowl of water with a basket of hay and tended to the wound with the use of a first aid box.
While cleaning the wound, she noticed the mournful noise had ceased and the animal had stop trembling. This could only mean one thing…it finally bit the dust and kicked the bucket. Staring into the creature’s stationary eyes, she felt two shimmers of tears roll down her eyes. A tingle of something warm struck her chest. She gulped and used two little fingers to shut the animal’s lid before getting to her feet. Tearfully looking up, she noticed the sky was half-awake and the night had faded into the unknown. She rushed to the window and there was a fawn standing close to the snow-clothed oak tree, waiting patiently. She had no idea what the baby deer was looking for but it occurred to her, it might be looking for its mother. She felt terribly sorry for the fawn and decided to put the blame upon herself by taking full responsibility for the creature’s loss. It was the nicest idea that popped into her mind.

Leaving the stable, she approached the fawn with a more friendly gesture and a pleasant smile. It hooved its foot on the snow and gradually came forward. Another warm tingle tickled her chest, it was more of care and affection. She hugged it passionately and fed the hungry fawn some bowls of barleycorn and oats. She vowed to do her best to protect this creature and any meek animals from any hunters or wild animals.
